Students Are Heading Back to College: Title IX Must Be Protected

Every September, thousands of students leave for college in pursuit of a transformational educational experience. They deserve to be safe and free from discrimination.

Last week, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos undermined students’ rights by announcing her intention to rollback Title IX. As you may know, Title IX is the law that says: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” In particular, Title IX has given sexual assault survivors a voice and a promise that the government and educational institutions would protect their rights.

With one in five women students being the victim of sexual assault on campus, we need Title IX more than ever. That’s why this week, we’re asking you to join us to fight against these rollbacks by calling your representative and asking them what they are doing to protect Title IX. Together, we must challenge this toxic culture that condones and perpetuates violence against women in all forms.
