Let’s Fight Sexist Reporting at the Olympics and #AskHerMore
From the red carpet to the slopes, the media sends the limiting message that a woman’s value lies in her youth, beauty, and sexuality and not in her accomplishments – yes, even at the Olympics. According to a study that analyzed over 160 million words from decades of newspapers, academic papers, tweets, and blogs, male athletes are three times more likely than women to be mentioned in a sporting context, while women are disproportionately described in relation to their marital status, age, or appearance.
Let’s make this Olympics different by holding reporters accountable with #AskHerMore. Join us throughout the Olympics to tweet and remind reporters we will not tolerate sexist reporting. Together, we will change the narrative about women in sports and our culture at large.
