HTGAWM’s Matt McGorry Explains Toxic Masculinity Using a Shower Cap

In a tweet today,  actor, activist, and The Representation Project ambassador Matt McGorry perfectly articulated how the limited definition of what it means to “be a man” is bull💩:

We’re digging the purple shower cap, but let’s zoom in on that caption:

Just think about all the things “real men” can’t do: wear shower caps or pink, enjoy baking, or even cry. Matt’s post breaks down how this feeds into a toxic status quo where we value traditional masculine characteristics like dominance, control, and aggression over traits like empathy, care, and compassion. This harms us all. As we explore in Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In limiting gender stereotypes feed a toxic status quo that perpetuates inequality and even violence.
