Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the passage of the Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA). Drafted by then-Senator Joe Biden, the bill finally treated domestic violence as the national, public health crisis it is. The bill is gender-neutral and includes funding for rape crisis centers and hotlines, services for victims with disabilities, legal aide for survivors, and more. Over two decades later it remains a critical piece of legislation:

President Trump (who bragged about committing sexual assault) and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos have made it clear that these protections are in danger under the current administration. That’s why through our films Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In, our campaigns, and programs, we’re creating a culture that doesn’t tolerate objectification of or violence against women and girls. Together, we can put an end to domestic violence once and for all.
