The Alexandria Shooter’s First Victims Were His Daughter and Girlfriend

This morning America awoke to a horrifyingly common news story: a shooter had opened fire on civilians. What’s even more common about it? He had a history of domestic assault. In fact, more than one American woman a day is shot by a former or current partner. With the majority of mass shooters being men (90%), we have to challenge and overcome our culture of toxic masculinity. Being a “real man” cannot mean solving your problems with violence, treating women and girls as objects, or measuring your success via dominance, aggression, and control. We have to change this status quo.
